NAME: Maxxie Oliver
ALIAS: Spotlight
CANON: Skins
AGE: 25
GENDER: Male
OCCUPATION: Stage Actor, Part Time Theatre Teacher
AU BACKGROUND:
After graduating from the Xavier Institute, Maxxie stayed in New York and moved to the city to start auditioning for broadway. Eager to stay out of trouble, he became distanced from the mutant community and kept his mutation under-the-radar, though he attended events for mutants whenever he could. After about a year of playing a few small parts and not earning enough to keep living in New York, he moved back to Bristol to live with his parents for a while. From there, he joined a theatre group in London and added a few shows to his resume. After another year or so in London, he moved around a bit and finally visited Genosha.
As with the Institute, Maxxie found himself feeling a new level of acceptance in Genosha, and he decided pretty quickly that he wanted to go back and live there at some point. It's sometime around here that he starts going out with Terrance Ward, a former counselor from the Institute.
He continued to work with his theatre group in London, and this took up most of his time. He got more interested in things other than performing - writing and set design in particular. At this point he earned his first few lead roles and gained a small amount of fame in the UK.
When his work with in London had run its course, he felt himself drawn back to Genosha, so he picked up and moved there. It had been about five years since he had finished school. After a few months of sorting himself out, he founded a theatre company where he aimed to put on plays written by mutants and featuring mutant talent. Too fill in the financial blanks that had been left by the theatre company, he also offered to work at the Genosha Academy, teaching theatre.
PERSONALITY:
Maxxie is still very similar to his 18-year-old self, but he's gained some maturity, most notably emotional maturity. At 25 his skin is a bit thicker, and he's much better at stepping back and evaluating a situation before he reacts to it. Having gone and gotten an actual career in the performing arts, he's had to gain a bit of humility and self-awareness that he didn't quite have at 18. He still gets pouty and a bit bratty after a particularly negative review, but they don't send him in a downward spiral of self-pity like they used to.
Also - shock and awe - he's in a committed relationship so he's not as flirty. For Maxxie however this just means he has downgraded to moderately flirty.
APPEARANCE:
Maxxie's mutation does not have a physical manifestation, and otherwise he is a short (5'7" ish), blonde, white man with a super cute face and a lean, muscular body. Mitch Hewer (this is the least ridiculous image I could find of him, which is not surprising).
POWERS:
Maxxie manipulates light. He can create or change anything in the visual spectrum - which means with a fair amount of practice he can create holograms. He cannot produce heat or radiation, only the brightness, colour and form of the visual spectrum of light. Because he hasn't been practicing a lot, his holograms are generally shaky and misshapen, but he can create his own light source that mimics daylight within a fairly small physical space.
